Flathead Cherry Specialty Crop - From Orchard to Innovation
Cherrywood Orchard and Mission Mountain West Food Enterprise Center
We were recently featured in a video highlighting the transformative work of the Mission Mountain West Food Enterprise Center (MMFEC) and their support for specialty crops. Filmed in August 2024 and funded by the USDA Agricultural Marketing Service, the video, created by the Montana Department of Agriculture, showcases how MMFEC helps farmers like us turn raw crops into value-added products, creating new opportunities for growth.
Flathead Cherries: From Orchard to Innovation
Flathead Cherries are a specialty crop celebrated throughout the region. Our season involves meticulous care, from winter pruning to harvesting at peak ripeness during the summer. The video offers a behind-the-scenes look at our process and how MMFEC has helped us develop products like dried cherries, frozen cherries, and cherry juice. We've expanded beyond fresh sales, creating versatile cherry products that enhance our orchard's reach and highlight the uniqueness of Flathead Cherries.
The video also features interviews with me, Zack Sybert, and my mom, Tiffany, as we share our passion for cherry growing, the challenges we face, and the rewards of creating value-added products. We are deeply grateful for the support of the Montana Department of Agriculture and MMFEC in showcasing the potential of specialty crops.
