Our Location

Cherrywood Orchard is nestled along the East Shore of Flathead Lake, just north of Yellow Bay, where the Mission Mountains meet Montana’s largest freshwater lake. This stretch of shoreline is known as Bear Dance, a community with deep roots in Flathead Lake’s cherry-growing history, where generations of growers have tended orchards along the lake’s edge.

  • Flathead Lake plays a vital role in shaping our orchard’s growing environment. The lake’s large surface area helps to moderate winter temperatures, keeping the surrounding air milder than areas farther from the water. When cold air settles in the valley, the lake releases stored warmth, helping to protect cherry trees from deep freezes and damage during the coldest months.

  • Our orchard sits on land enriched with glacial deposits, left behind as ice sheets receded thousands of years ago. These well-drained soils are rich in minerals, supporting strong, healthy trees and producing firm, flavorful cherries with the distinctive sweetness that Flathead cherries are famous for.

  • Situated along Highway 35 on the east side of Flathead Lake, Cherrywood Orchard offers beautiful views of the Mission Mountains and lies just a short distance from the lakeshore. The combination of mountain air, lake-moderated winters, and fertile glacial soils makes this area one of the most unique and productive fruit-growing regions in the Northwest.
